About Oyster bay

Oyster Bay, home to bay-front estate homes, and the prestigious Field Club, is an older neighborhood South of Bee Ridge Road and West of the Trail that winds along Little Sarasota Bay.

An upscale and welcoming community, with that magic, old-Florida feeling created by old oaks, established tropical landscapes and the character only a historic waterfront neighborhood can offer.

This conveniently located neighborhood offers a wide variety of homes in terms of styles, sizes and prices, and is tucked along the bay behind some of Sarasota's busiest areas is just minuets from Siesta Key, downtown or central Sarasota.

Stretching from Siesta Drive in the north and running along Camino Real down to Field Road in the south, Oyster Bay is a neighborhood that you can find young families and wealthy retirees in the same park. With surprising roots Oyster Bay is a community that has experienced many changes.

The story of Oyster Bay goes all the way back to 1881 when this highly prized area was purchased for just one measly dollar per acre. The land continued to change both owner s and uses and in 1920 the area the field road is on really was a field, offering pasture to a dairy farm, and leased for a quart of milk per day from the owners. In 1925 the first familiar item appeared when wealthy merchants built a large Spanish villa on along the water at Oyster bay who used the elaborate new home as snowbirds avoiding until the property's sale in 1957 to Sarasota entrepreneurs who had big ideas for the home.

The new owners, a group of investors from the Sarasota Yacht Club, added tennis courts, enlarged the docks, built a swimming pool, and remodeled the home into a private club called the Field Club. Still going today, the field club is of the oldest private businesses still in Sarasota. Oyster Bay the neighborhood was created in the early 1950s when another developer purchased the land and many new homes were built Sarasota grew as America recovered from WWII and Oyster Bay along with it.

Today there are more than 168 homes nestled into an established landscape of old oaks and tropical palms. The variety of homes is a large part of the neighborhood feel, but surprisingly this quiet family friendly community is situated just behind busy route 41 and all the shopping, dining and commerce of central Sarasota.

In addition to the beautiful landscape, boaters will love the deep canals with direct access to Sarasota Bay. Oyster Bay is a unique neighborhood bringing together some of the best of Sarasota, from history, to waterfront luxury and convenience this is one community any home buyer should take a look at.
