As the rest of the country enjoys the last of the summer weather and begins to batten down the hatches for the onslaught of winter, we Floridians have the giddy anticipation of opening up our doors and windows to let in the dry, cool winter weather. Winters in Florida are glorious, so it’s no wonder that the beautiful weather brings with it a tide of visitors, part-time residents and “snowbirds” who come to get a piece of the sunshine.
October is the real start of our social season, and the city comes alive with arts and cultural performances, fundraising galas and social events. I’m going to do a gratuitous plug for a fantastic event that I am helping to organize. The Pillar of Hope is a FREE tasting and awareness event taking place at the Child Protection Center in downtown Sarasota from 5-8pm on October 16th.
We have gathered together over 20 local restaurants, Darwin’s, Louies Modern, Mattison’s and El Greco to name a few, who will be providing free samplings of their tastiest dishes. This fun evening offers live music, a fun raffle, craft beer, wine and a signature cocktail, as well as book signings and tours of the facility.
This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the Pillar of Hope and let children in our community know that they are not alone.

Real Estate Market Update
August 2014 – Modest Increase In Activity
August’s sales figures show that year to date sales across Sarasota County are 100 units higher than the same time last year.
The median sales prices for the 12 month period ending in August, which moderates monthly swings, was $192,000 for single family homes, an increase of 10% on last August’s 12-month period of $175,000. For condos it was 11.5% higher at $178,500.
Inventory has shrunk further to 4.2 months. A well balanced real estate market is typically about 6 months’ supply of properties.
Pending sales were robust in August, which should translate to similar sales figures for September.
