According to a recent report compiled by a national real estate firm, Sarasota ranks 19th in the entire nation for the number of luxury listings. Sarasota County currently has 364 luxury listings ($1m+) on the market. Around 40 percent of high net worth millenials surveyed feel that investing in real estate is a safer bet than the stock market. Aside from the obvious draw of sun, sea and winter warmth, low taxes and improved accessibility continue to draw luxury homebuyers to Florida; in fact, 7 out of 20 of the top cities for luxury real estate are in Florida.

September Market Update:
September is typically one of the slowest months for real estate activity and this September the total number of sales dipped below 1,000 for the first time in 6 months. Inventory is up marginally from last month, and the median price for single family homes was 18 percent higher than September 2014 at $223,500. Median Condo prices dropped slightly from $195,000 to $192,500.
The president of the Realtors Association of Sarasota and Manatee (RASM) noted “We continue to see sales number at or near record levels, and the price rise in the single family market obviously has not scared away buyers. The affordability of local properties remains at a much better level now than during the boom years of 2004-2006, as interest rates remain very favorable for buyers.”
