Although October is best known for being breast cancer awareness month - even PF Changs got into the spirit by painting their iconic horses pink! - it is also the month of "Archtober", national architecture and design month.
Sarasota of course has plenty to boast about when it comes to architecture and it appears that it is right on trend. Take a look around the Crate and Barrel store at the new University Town Center mall and you can instantly tell that mid-century modern is en vogue.
As part of the festivities, The Sarasota Architectural Foundation hosted the inaugural SarasotaMod weekend, a four-day celebration of Sarasota's unique architectural heritage.
"Sarasota in the 1950s was one of the most important places in the world for architectural creativity, where the greatest design movements of the day came together." - Carl Abbott FAIA

Sarasota named Google's 2014 eCity
Google picks Sarasota as Florida's leading e-city this year. This award acknowledges Sarasota as having the strongest combined e-commerce, social media, and web presence within the state of Florida. Sarasota is using the web to find new customers as well as connect with existing ones therefore help boost the local economy.
"Being recognized by Google as Florida's 2014 eCity means we have the most robust e-business community in the State as determined by Google and research," said City Manager Tom Barwin. "What a great foundation to build upon. With three universities, a vibrant downtown business center and digital business incubators, a San Francisco-like spirit of innovation and creativity is clearly in this community's business, academic and social DNA. Google algorithms have proven what many of us have suspected. Sarasota is open for digital, high tech oriented folks who enjoy cultural amenities and the world's greatest sunsets," said Mr. Barwin.
